Gordon & MacPhail and Speymalt
Gordon & MacPhail is a family-owned whisky merchant and independent bottler founded in Elgin in 1895, owned by the Urquhart family, which also runs the Benromach and Cairn distilleries. Its Macallan-distilled whiskies are bottled under the Speymalt name, and each release is labelled with its own vintage and cask details.
The whisky
Distilled at Macallan in 2005, this whisky spent 19 years in a single first-fill seasoned hogshead before Gordon & MacPhail bottled it under the Foundations label. At 56.5% ABV it is presented close to cask strength, as one cask rather than a vatting.
Serving
Start neat in a nosing glass, then add a few drops of water to open it up. It suits a slow evening dram and pairs well with dark chocolate or dried fruit.

No. It is an independent bottling: the whisky was distilled at Macallan and selected, matured and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, who sell it under their Speymalt label.
What does 'first-fill seasoned hogshead' mean?
The hogshead (about 250 litres) had been seasoned before being filled with whisky for the first time, so it passes on more flavour and colour than a refilled cask.
