Frequently asked
Is peated Irish whisky common?
Rare category. Most Irish whisky is unpeated — the Irish tradition typically emphasises smoother, non-peated character. Peated Irish whisky is a relatively niche specialty category. Waterford Peated series highlights this less-explored Irish style.
Waterford peat vs Islay peat?
Irish peat has different character than Scottish (Islay) peat — different composition, different smoking traditions. Genuinely different peated whisky expression.

NOSE
Powerful and nuanced. Vibrant peat, fresh smoke like a spring morning frost. Then, a coastal walk with hints of iodine and oyster shells. The finish is sweeter with barley sugar, orchard fruits, especially apple and pear skin, and warm hay as the glass fully opens.
PALATE
Full-bodied and velvety. Grist, driftwood, campfire, and creosote. Sheep’s wool and Lapsang Souchong black tea. White peach and applesauce are juicy, providing a perfect balance to the pronounced palate.
FINISH
Smoky and smoldering. Complex cigar tobacco notes, green tea, and tar.
