2016 is distinguished in Bordeaux by its climatic homogeneity, it is a qualitative vintage for the whole region. After a budburst on dates close to normal, the spring was rather rainy and cool. June was particularly gloomy and cold, but the flower still took place in good conditions. The summer was hot and very dry, almost too dry at the beginning of September because it was possible to perceive the maturation sometimes blocked under the effect of stress. Under these conditions, the great terroirs of Lafite behaved perfectly, which made it possible to wait without too much concern for the saving rains of September 13th. Then the maturation could be completed in the best conditions to reach levels rarely reached.
TASTING NOTE (AT BOTTLING):
Very nice dark red and violet colour. The nose is very charming with notes of red fruits in which the cherry dominates. There are also notes of tobacco, which is quite surprising at this stage of ageing. On the palate, the wine quickly asserts itself, this is often the case for the Carruades because of its proportion of Merlot. It quickly reaches its fullness in the mouth and then reveals a very beautiful harmony. The complementarity between the 4 grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, is perfect and has a structured and very pleasant length. The finish unfolds on slightly salty and very noble mineral notes. Optimum 10 to 15 years or more.
