100° Proof is a cask-strength Islay from Port Askaig. With notes of sweet fruit, peat smoke and minerality, this is a benchmark Islay whisky and a great everyday peaty dram at this price.
Mineral, fresh. Peat, lemon, sweet fruits.
TASTING NOTES
Nose : Smoky, ample. Smoked ham, ashes, exotic fruits, then saline and marine [spray].
Palate : At first lively and stony, with an intense minerality that quickly becomes soft, rich, gourmand [coffee with milk, milk chocolate]. Spices appear gradually, adding licorice and cinnamon apple, along with thick charcoal smoke.
Finish : Sweet, spicy and very long. Cinnamon-spiced chocolate slowly fades to give way to dried apple skin.
