The story behind it
The Creation of a Classic tells the story of David C. Stewart MBE, who is credited with the first cask-finished whisky, The Balvenie Classic, in 1983. It was launched in November 2021 as part of The Balvenie Stories, initially for global travel retail.
The whisky
Whisky matured in traditional American oak is moved into sweet oloroso sherry casks to finish, the same idea behind DoubleWood. The Balvenie describes lively vanilla and clove on the nose and a palate of oatmeal syrup and brittle toffee, drying to European oak.
How to enjoy it
Pour it neat into one of the glasses in the pack, then add a drop of water if you like. It also works well with fruit cake or a cheese board.

No. It uses the same principle of an oloroso sherry cask finish, but it is a separate bottling with no age statement, bottled at 43% ABV.

Long and warmly oaked — lingering sherried fruit, vanilla, soft caramel, and a gentle peppery oak warmth fading slowly — refined and beautifully composed.
