Frequently asked

Why is 1946 historically significant?
1946 was the immediate post-World War II year — Scotch whisky production was severely constrained during and after WWII due to barley rationing. Very few 1946 vintage casks survive from that era, making pre-1950 vintage Scotch extraordinarily rare. G&M's ability to bottle a 1946 Glenlivet nearly 80 years later reflects their unique vintage archive.

Is this investment-grade?
Yes — 1946 vintage single malt Scotch is ultra-rare, museum-grade acquisition. Retain original packaging in optimal storage conditions. Consider provenance documentation.

Description

TASTING NOTES

NOSE

Sparkling and surprisingly vibrant for its age with fresh summer fruit, citrus, green apple, and cantaloupe at the fore, layered with sweet vanilla, a beautiful aged Cognac note, waxed fruit, pineapple juice, and a delicate dusty bookshelf quality that speaks eloquently to decades of quiet maturation in G&M's Elgin warehouses.

PALATE

Fruity, sweet, and gently complex with red apple, sultanas, green apple, and a soft sherry character, underpinned by a light vegetal note, old seal wax, dry oak tannins, warming spice, and hints of honey — remarkable vitality and fruit-forward elegance for a whisky of such extraordinary age.

FINISH

Long, honeyed, and gently woody with a drying, tannic oak note, dried fruit, warming winter spice, and a subtle tang of aged oak — a finish of exceptional length and quiet, dignified character that lingers as a testament to over four decades of patient Speyside maturation.
