Clase Azul Tequila Dia De Muertos Edicion Limitada 2023 – 100cl
The third and most aromatically evocative chapter in Clase Azul's celebrated five-year Nuestros Recuerdos ("Our Memories") series, the 2023 Día de Muertos Edición Limitada — subtitled Aromas — is a whisky of quite literally breathtaking cultural depth, artistic beauty, and liquid craftsmanship that stands as one of the most extraordinary limited edition tequila releases of the modern era. Where the 2021 edition celebrated the Sabores (flavours) of Día de Muertos and the 2022 edition honoured its Colores (colours), the 2023 edition turns its lens entirely on the intoxicating, memory-laden aromas that define Mexico's most beloved festival — the smouldering copal incense, the marigold-strewn ofrendas, the cempasúchil blossoms guiding souls home, and the rich, spiced warmth of a celebration that sits at the most sacred intersection of life, death, and love.
Crafted by Clase Azul's Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco from the finest Blue Weber agave cultivated for a minimum of nine years in the highlands of Jalisco, this exquisite añejo tequila is aged for a full 25 months in American whiskey casks before being finished in rare Armagnac casks from the Bas-Armagnac region of France — chosen by Tinoco for the fine, complex fruit notes that the region's siliceous-clay soil imparts to the spirit, and for its philosophical alignment with Clase Azul's values of small-scale, heritage-driven, ancestral craftsmanship. The result is a full-bodied tequila of captivating amber colour with warm copper highlights — profoundly complex, deeply fruited, and spiced with the warmth of cacao, cinnamon, and clove that evokes the scents of a Día de Muertos ofrenda in the most vivid and moving way. The hand-painted ceramic decanter, adorned with a deep marigold glaze that darkens dramatically towards the base and featuring a dreamlike illustration by Mexican artist Jimena Estíbaliz depicting folkloric characters and xoloitzcuintles (Mexican hairless dogs) amidst a miraculous cempasúchil flower harvest, is as much a collector's objet d'art as a vehicle for an exceptional spirit. in a 1-litre format, this is a once-in-a-lifetime acquisition for collectors, connoisseurs, and anyone with a deep appreciation for the extraordinary cultural heritage of Mexico.
TASTING NOTES
NOSE
Rich and deeply aromatic with peach, pear, and raisin leading the way, layered with candied walnut, toasted wood, clove, roasted agave, caramelised pear, and a gentle vanilla sweetness — an inviting, evocative bouquet reminiscent of the cempasúchil-laden ofrendas of Día de Muertos itself.
PALATE
Full-bodied, smooth, and sumptuously layered with peach, walnut, clove, and cacao at the fore, complemented by warm agave sweetness, subtle oak, and the complex fine fruit character of the Armagnac cask finish — rich, balanced, and deeply satisfying throughout.
FINISH
Long, warm, and exquisitely sustained with cacao and cinnamon lingering beautifully — a deeply evocative and elegant close that honours both the spirit of Mexico and the extraordinary craft of Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco.
