The distillery
Glenfiddich was founded in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, and is still owned by his family's company, William Grant & Sons. The 12 Year Old is its best-known whisky and the starting point of the core range.
The whisky
The spirit matures for at least 12 years in a combination of American oak casks and European oak sherry casks. The casks are then brought together in oak marrying tuns, which Glenfiddich say rounds the whisky out before bottling at 40% ABV.
How to enjoy it
Try it neat first, then with a few drops of water to bring out the pear and butterscotch. It also works well in a highball with soda and a slice of apple or pear.
