The Solera idea
Glenfiddich was founded in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, and is still owned by his family's company, William Grant & Sons. For the 15 Year Old it borrowed the solera system from sherry bodegas: a large oak vat that is topped up but never emptied.
The whisky
Whisky matured for 15 years in sherry, bourbon and new oak casks is poured into the Solera Vat. Because the vat has been kept at least half full since 1998, each batch carries a little of the whisky that went before it. Bottled at 40% ABV, it has a golden colour with a red hue.
How to enjoy it
Pour it neat at room temperature, then add a drop of water to open the honey and marzipan. It sits well after dinner with dark chocolate, dried fruit or nuts.

NOSE
Rich and aromatic — honeyed orchard fruit, sherried fruit, vanilla, dark caramel, gentle baking spice, and warm toasted oak — layered and beautifully composed.
PALATE
Full and rounded — honeyed pear, dried fruit, vanilla cream, soft toffee, dark cocoa, gentle leather, and integrated oak — silky, complex, and harmoniously balanced.
FINISH
Long and warmly oaked — lingering dried fruit, vanilla, soft caramel, and a gentle peppery oak warmth fading slowly — refined and beautifully composed.
