The Grand Series
Glenfiddich was founded in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, in the heart of Speyside, and is still owned by his family's company, William Grant & Sons. Gran Cortes was the second release in the Grand Series, after Grand Cru, and was first launched in Mainland China and Taiwan in 2020. The name nods to the grand royal courts of Spain.
The whisky
Malt Master Brian Kinsman finished 22-year-old Glenfiddich in Palo Cortado sherry casks. Palo Cortado is one of the rarest sherry styles, and the casks give the whisky a dark red hue and layers of deep sweetness.
How to enjoy it
Take it neat at room temperature, and add a few drops of water if the 44.3% strength feels firm. Roasted almonds, aged Manchego or dark chocolate make good companions.

What is Palo Cortado?
A rare style of sherry that sits between Amontillado and Oloroso in character. Casks that held it are uncommon, which is why Glenfiddich chose them for this release.
How does it differ from the 21 Gran Reserva?
The 21 uses Caribbean rum casks for banana and toffee sweetness. The 22 uses Palo Cortado sherry casks for a darker, richer profile of dates, chocolate and fruitcake, and is bottled stronger at 44.3%.
