The Spot Whiskeys are produced at the Midleton Distillery in Cork and take their name from the Mitchell & Son wine merchants' 19th century practice of marking different ages of maturing casks with coloured spots. Green Spot is the most celebrated and widely available of the range. This wine cask edition takes the classic Green Spot and finishes it in casks sourced from the famous Napa Valley Chardonnay casks from Château Montelena — the winery that won the 1976 Paris Judgement blind tasting — adding a distinctive wine complexity, fruit character, and vinous depth to the characteristic pot still freshness and spice. Nose: The oak notes blend with the sweet vanilla, white chocolate, and marshmallow. The scents of red apples and ripe pears, characteristic of Green Spot, are enhanced by the wine casks that give off aromas of pomegranates, cranberries, and maraschino cherries.
Palate: The spices and citrus zest gradually give way to notes of ripe red berries and orchard fruits. The subtle flavors of almond paste and toasted oak highlight the complexity of the whiskey.
Finish: Long, spicy with delicate notes brought by the dry wine.
