Three crafts in one
M was first released in 2013 as a collaboration between The Macallan, the French crystal house Lalique and creative director Fabien Baron. The decanter has six facets, each a nod to the distillery's heritage, and it has since returned as an annual edition in the Master Decanter series.
The whisky
M carries no age statement. The Macallan builds it from sherry-seasoned Spanish oak, aiming for a deep, rosewood-coloured single malt with dried fruit, spice and polished oak. The 2020 edition was bottled at 45% ABV in an edition of 3,055 decanters.
Serving
Pour a small measure into a nosing glass and give it a few minutes before tasting. A drop or two of water will open up the fruit and spice. Keep the decanter upright and away from direct light.
