Tamnavulin, whose name means "mill on the hill" in Gaelic, is a relatively young Speyside distillery built in 1966 in the village of Tomnavoulin, just 5km from The Glenlivet, whose spirit has predominantly served the blending industry under Whyte & Mackay ownership. The Sherry Cask Edition is the expression that brought the distillery to wider attention — beginning in American ex-bourbon oak barrels that lay down a characteristic soft, sweet, and fruity Speyside foundation, before finishing in not one but three different Oloroso sherry casks sourced from individual cooperages in Spain, adding layers of dried fruit, warm spice, and dark chocolate richness. An excellent entry point into the world of sherry-finished single malt in Singapore — sweet, smooth, and completely unpretentious.
TASTING NOTES
NOSE
Enticing and approachably rich — vanilla, caramel, banana, and milk chocolate lead with raisins, dried orange, fresh red apples, and a gentle hint of warm ginger — sweet, fruity, and immediately inviting.
PALATE
Warm and sweetly layered — maple syrup, raisin, orange, and apricot with toffee, dried fruits, warm spices, rich caramel, and a touch of dark chocolate and nuttiness — oily and pleasingly textured throughout.
FINISH
Medium in length and satisfyingly sweet — sugary oak, hints of spice, grapes, and a lingering dark chocolate warmth fading gently — clean and approachable to the last.
