Released in small batches
The Balvenie has released its 40 Year Old in a series of numbered batches, each a marriage of a handful of casks chosen by the Malt Master. Batches of 150 bottles have been reported, and the cask make-up has varied from batch to batch.
The whisky
The whisky is drawn from traditional oak and European oak sherry casks aged for at least 40 years. The Balvenie's notes describe honey and orange marmalade with a creamy fruitiness, orange blossom and candied ginger on the palate, and a warm, honeyed citrus finish.
How to enjoy it
If opened, pour a small measure neat into a nosing glass and let it rest. Add water only a drop at a time, if at all.

Velvety and concentrated — dark caramel, dried fig, sherried oak, dark cocoa, leather, espresso, gentle smoke, and warm spice — full-bodied with the depth that only forty years can deliver.
FINISH
Exceptionally long — lingering dried fruit, dark caramel, sherried oak, gentle leather, and a slow warming spice depth fading gracefully — sophisticated, contemplative, and unforgettable.
