The Small Batch Collection
The Glenlivet launched the Small Batch Collection as a limited series of aged single malts, each built around a flavour theme and released in small quantities. This 17 Year Old, labelled Nuts & Spice, comes from the 2024 collection.
The whisky
It is a cask marriage of American and Spanish oak, bottled at 60.8% ABV. The Glenlivet note cinnamon, dark chocolate raisins, apple strudel and orange zest on the nose, with sun-dried apricot, cinnamon buns, cranberry, ginger and clove on the palate.
How to enjoy it
At 60.8% ABV, taste a small measure neat, then add water a few drops at a time. Water softens the strength and opens up the apricot and baked apple. A spiced fruit cake or dark chocolate makes a good partner.

It is a high-strength release from the Small Batch Collection rather than a core-range bottling reduced to 40%. Adding a little water lets you find the strength that suits you.
How is it different from the 18 Year Old?
The 18 is a 40% core-range whisky from American oak and ex-sherry casks with a fruit and toffee profile. This 17 is far stronger and spicier, with cinnamon, dark chocolate and dried apricot from American and Spanish oak.
