The Glenrothes
The Glenrothes Distillery sits on a private estate in Rothes, Speyside, and has made whisky since 1879. Part of The Edrington Group, it moved to an age-statement range in 2018 and refreshed that range from 2023, led by Master Whisky Maker Laura Rampling.
The whisky
The 18 is described by the distillery as rich sweetness, gentle spice and fragrant fruit with the refinement of age. Its core is whisky from first-fill sherry-seasoned oak, which brings ginger and spice to the pear and vanilla of the house style.
How to enjoy it
Try it neat first so the pear and vanilla come through, then add a few drops of water to bring out the almond and ginger. It suits an unhurried evening dram.
