The Glenrothes 40 Year Old was distilled in 1978 on stills since retired, filled to cask in December that year and released in 2019 as the oldest whisky in the Soleo Collection. Matured in sherry-seasoned and ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 43% ABV, only 594 bottles were produced.

A 1978 distillation
The spirit was made in 1978 on copper stills that The Glenrothes has since retired, and was filled to cask in December 1978. It was released in 2019 as the distillery's first 40 year old and the oldest member of the Soleo Collection.
The whisky
It matured for four decades in a combination of sherry-seasoned and ex-bourbon oak casks and was bottled at 43% ABV with a naturally deep ruby colour. The distillery described it as resinous and rich in sweetness.
How to enjoy it
Serve it neat in a small tulip glass at room temperature and let it rest before nosing. A whisky of this age needs no water and rewards a slow, attentive pour.

Velvety and concentrated — dark caramel, dried fig, sherried oak, dark cocoa, leather, espresso, gentle smoke, and warm spice — full-bodied with the depth that only forty years can deliver.
FINISH
Exceptionally long — lingering dried fruit, dark caramel, sherried oak, gentle leather, and a slow warming spice depth fading gracefully — sophisticated, contemplative, and unforgettable.
