The Sherry Oak style
Sherry Oak is Macallan's traditional style, matured only in oak casks seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera. Its colour comes from the casks alone, ranging from rich gold at 12 years to light mahogany at 18.
The two bottles
The 12 Years Old (40% ABV) is smooth and rich, with dried fruit, ginger, nutmeg and oak spice and a long, warming ginger finish. The 18 Years Old 2025 Release (43% ABV) is fuller and deeper, with sultanas, orange, cinnamon, stem ginger, sticky dates and dark chocolate over mature oak.
Tasting them together
Taste the 12 first, neat, then move to the 18. A drop of water opens both, and the 18 is a good match for dark chocolate or fruit cake.
