An annual high-strength series
Classic Cut is The Macallan's yearly limited edition, bottled at a higher strength than the core range. The series began in 2017, and each edition is built from a different cask recipe, so no two years taste alike.
The 2022 edition
The 2022 release brings together European and American oak, with both sherry-seasoned and ex-bourbon casks playing a part. The Macallan calls its colour Golden Butterscotch, and the profile is brighter and fruitier than the house's sherry-led bottlings.
How to serve it
Taste it neat first, then add water a few drops at a time to let the fruit open up. The Macallan also suggests a long serve with soda, ice and a slice of grapefruit.

How strong is the 2022 Classic Cut?
It is bottled at 52.5% ABV, well above the 40 to 43% of most core Macallans. A little water softens the alcohol and brings out more fruit.
How do the Classic Cut years differ?
Each edition uses a different cask combination. The 2022 is led by grapefruit and peach, the 2023 by pear, elderflower and almond, and the 2024 by vanilla, green apple and citrus peel.
