The Singleton of Dufftown 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky – 70cl
A meaningful step up from the 12 Year Old — and the expression that most comfortably showcases what the Dufftown Distillery is capable of when given a little more time. Originally released for the travel retail market before entering general distribution, the 15 Year Old is matured in a combination of European and American oak casks, with the European oak's influence noticeably more pronounced here than in the 12 — adding a deeper sherry-touched richness, greater dried fruit complexity, and a warming spice character that makes this a considerably more layered and satisfying dram. Reassuringly well-balanced for its age, with the characteristic Singleton sweetness and approachability intact but underpinned by a depth and elegance that earns it genuine respect. Gold Medal winner in the Speyside Single Malts 13-18 Year Old category at the 2015 Scotch Whisky Masters.
TASTING NOTES
NOSE
Soft, sweet, and fruity — baked green apple, crumbly brown sugar, and cinnamon open with runny butterscotch, honey, vanilla, toasted nuts, dried orange, floral pot pourri, and a pleasant sherry influence — clean, inviting, and beautifully harmonious.
PALATE
Smooth and gently layered — muscovado sugar and milk chocolate lead into baked apple, vanilla custard, butterscotch, soft fudge, creamy toffee, raisins, sultanas, and apricot jam — warming oak spice of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove developing mid-palate with a pleasant nutty dryness.
FINISH
Soft, sweet, and medium in length — malty biscuits, warming spice, a hint of cocoa powder, and ginger cake fading gently — understated and elegant throughout.
