Kilchoman was founded in 2005 at Rockside Farm on the western shore of Islay — the most westerly distillery on the island, exposed to the full force of the Atlantic — and remains the only distillery in Scotland to grow a proportion of its own barley and perform all stages of production from field to bottle on a single farm site. The 16 Year Old represents the oldest expression Kilchoman has ever released — and given that the distillery only opened in 2005, every expression over ten years old is a genuinely rare and historically significant bottling.
