Named in honour of the man who made Japanese whisky possible — Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, the first Japanese to study distillation in Scotland, and the visionary founder of Nikka — the Taketsuru Pure Malt is both a tribute to his legacy and the most eloquent expression of the blending philosophy he spent a lifetime perfecting. A pure malt whisky — what the Japanese call a vatted malt, combining only single malt whiskies with no grain whisky — it brings together Yoichi and Miyagikyo malts in a blend designed to achieve something that Nikka's own blenders describe as their greatest challenge: creating a whisky as smooth and approachable as the finest blended whiskies, using only the richer, more complex material of malt.

The result is a whisky of genuine harmony and character — Yoichi's bold, peated coastal robustness carefully counterbalanced by Miyagikyo's elegant, floral softness, matured across a variety of cask types including sherry oak for added richness and depth, and refined with the accumulated blending wisdom of four generations of Nikka craftspeople.
