Bowmore 12 Year Old is the celebrated flagship of the historic Bowmore distillery in central Islay — the oldest licensed distillery on the island, founded in 1779 on the shores of Loch Indaal. Matured for at least 12 years in a combination of American ex-bourbon and Spanish ex-sherry casks.
Bowmore is one of the few distilleries still malting some of its own barley on traditional floor maltings. The legendary No. 1 Vaults — Bowmore's ground-floor warehouse — sits below sea level and is one of the most distinctive maturation environments in Scotland.
An accessible peated Islay flagship — neat or with a drop of water.
TASTING NOTES
NOSE
Bright and aromatic — gentle peat smoke, sea salt, ripe orchard fruit, vanilla, soft honey, gentle baking spice, and warm toasted oak — distinctive and beautifully composed.
PALATE
Smooth and warmly smoked — sweet smoke, honeyed orchard fruit, vanilla cream, soft caramel, gentle salinity, and integrated oak — silky and harmoniously balanced.
FINISH
Medium-long and warmly smoked — lingering peat, vanilla, sea salt, soft caramel, and a gentle warmth fading evenly — distinctive and refined.
