Carruades de Lafite 2014 – 75cl

The high rainfall from November to February brought the groundwater tables up to level, already well filled in 2012 and 2013, higher than or equivalent to the annual averages.

Temperatures remained higher than normal and the vineyards, like men, lacked good winter frosts as we like them: beautiful sun, dry cold, windless for about 15 days! We do not control nature! Bud burst was early, followed by uniform flowering in the first week of June, favored by higher temperatures.

As always, the climatic conditions were at the center of our concerns as winegrowers and our teams worked throughout the year to bring grapes to maturity in perfect sanitary condition. Veraison took place in two periods, at the end of July, then after August 15, which led to differences in maturity on the bunches of the same vine stock.
It was therefore necessary to “juggle” at harvest time to make the most judicious choices; and urge the pickers and sorters to keep only the “nec plus ultra” of red grapes, suitable for producing our great Pauillac wines.

Beautiful dark and deep color. The nose is quite closed, but a delicate red and black fruitiness is noticeable. The woodiness is still young and needs to blend. The attack on the palate is ample and has a nice roundness. The wine develops well on tannins which are still lively but which will soften quickly. The notes of blackberries and cassis are clearly perceptible. The length is good and should assert itself in the bottle. This wine should open before 2020 and will reach its peak in about ten years.

Grape Type:

  • 58% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 42% Merlot
