History
The word “whisky” is Scottish Gaelic for water of life, which in the early days was used to describe any spirituous liquor. The first distilleries were built in the Scottish Highlands by the Clan MacLean around 1580 and the first whisky distillery was built on the Isle of Skye by an Irishman, James Grant, in 1725.
